Garmin radar install on IP380 mast

I'm in the process of mounting a Garmin GMR20 radar on a Kato bracket on my Island Packet 380 and would appreciate any tips from those who've done this before. I've been told drilling on the front centerline should reach the cable conduit, I am also looking for guidance on ideal height to avoid staysail interference during tack shifts

Just stick it above that staysail thingy so it doesn't get snagged. Make sure it can get right to that centerline gizmo and keep those cables nice and sealed up

Drilling on the front centerline risks damage, better to avoid it. Mounting radar high enough to clear the staysail is often overlooked, causing avoidable interference during tacks

On my IP380, drilling the front centerline did line up with the conduit. I just went slow and double-checked alignment. For height, I mounted mine about 7–8 feet above deck to clear the staysail during tacks. A test fit with the sail up really helps before final install.

Did you find that 7–8 feet worked well in all wind conditions, or did you ever wish you'd gone a bit higher to avoid any interference with sail trim?
