So yesterday i saw a really well maintained and clean 1980s island pocket. It looked very well cared for with upgraded gear. But, then i thought are these older boats worth the premium they seem to bring? Are we paying more for reputation or what? I'm interested to read some other opinions about this.

Island Packets from the '80s are well-regarded for their strong build and long-lasting performance, which often explains why they come with a higher price tag. They can keep their value if you take good care of them.

That being said, some feel they're a bit pricier than comparable boats from other brands. If you're really considering buying one, it's important to have a detailed inspection to check for things like chainplate corrosion or leaks.

Are you thinking about getting one, or are you just interested?

At first i wasn't really interested in buying one but then i did some digging on the internet and I've read what you said that with good maintenance you get a long-lasting performance. Now i'm actually thinking of getting one. Crazy right? :)
