Chainplate trouble after crew move

Had a guest lean on the port forward shroud while stepping aboard and now the plate moves slightly when tension is on. Boat's on the hard and we're trying to inspect the others before deciding if all need replacing. Does anyone know if the lower three on one side share a backing plate?

Most prolly yeah, or it ties into the same support structure. If one's moving, its smart to check the others while you've got the boat on the hard, could be a loose bedding. Might be time to re-bed or replace if they're showing wear.

If a shroud plate moves under load, it's already failed, inspecting isn't optional, it's overdue. Some boats do share a backing plate for multiple lowers, but not all. You'll need to check from below, if one's compromised, assume the others are stressed too. Don't wait for wind to make the call

We started digging into it last week and found the bedding was compromised as you suggested. This has turned into a project to re-bed all of them on both sides now.

Your point about failure is well taken and confirms our decision to act. We opened up the area last weekend to inspect from below. We are now in the process of replacing all the chainplates for safety and peace of mind.
