BIG BOY PURCHASE. I paid a deposit down on the new Island Packet 44 motorsailer, and I'm curious what you guys think. I mostly sailed pure cruisers, so I don't know much about motorsailers. Hahaha. I just bought this because all my life I've been using handmedowns. Any pros or cons I should know?

Congrats on getting the Island Packet 44! It's a great upgrade from the hand-me-downs you had before. These motorsailers are built to last and offer a ton of comfort for cruising, plus they've got reliable diesel engines to keep you going when the wind isn't cooperating
They might not be the fastest or most agile vessels like pure sailboats, but they really shine when it comes to making steady, comfortable journeys. A friend of mine has one, and he can't get enough of the spacious pilothouse and the ease of cruising around at 6–7 knots
What's your game plan for it? Are you leaning more towards motoring or sailing? Knowing that'll help set the right expectations for you

DOn't own it, but I have something to say. First of, congrats on the purchase, it's beautiful and elegant. Second of all, I've been aboard one a couple of times and I can tell you that it's very very very comfortable and smooth.
